Kälteurtikaria

Definition

Most common form of physical urticaria, which may be inherited or acquired. Immediate as well as delayed urticaria may be induced by cold. Eruptions with itchy erythemas and wheals develop especially in the cold season when the cold affects the uncovered parts of the body. Cold wind, washing with cold water and drinking cold liquids can also have the same effect. Additional symptoms may include wheezing, hypotension or syncope. Cold urticaria may be associated with viral infections including mononucleosis, hepatitis and measles.
