Lepra Tuberculosa

definition

Usually non-contagious, slowly progressing form of lepra in patients with a functioning defence system. The only tissues involved are nerves and skin, and lesions are few, often solitary. The typical lesion is an erythematous, copper coloured or purple plaque with raised edges and a hypopigmented centre. The surface is dry, hairless and insensitive, and sometimes scaly. The peripheral nerves are often thickened and palpable, and anaesthesia, trophic disturbances, and paralyses occur.
