definition
Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a benign self-healing non Langerhans cell histiocytosis characerized by an accumulation of lipid-laden macrophages. The lesions typically appear before the age of 1 year and may be present at birth as smooth, firm dome-shaped papulonodules typically yellow-orange coloured. Juvenile xanthogranuloma most often regresses spontaneously. Systemic disease with involvement of the lung, spleen or liver as well as the central nervous system or the eyes is very rare.
