Pemphigus Vulgaris

definition

Chronic vesiculobullous disease characterized by flaccid intraepidermal bullae and persistent erosions that develop on normal appearing skin and mucous membranes. Antibodies to intercellular substance can be found in the serum of patients suggesting an autoimmune basis to pemphigus vulgaris. Extremely uncommon disorder in children with a predilection for middle-aged individuals.
