Rare form of cicatricial alopecia in which chronic folliculitis leads to progressive scarring. The patchy lesions with superficial, deeper, and peripherally extending folliculitis give way to atrophy. Frequently, tufts of hair persist, so that several hair shafts emerge from one follicle opening. The aetiology is still unknown.
