Prurigo, Acute of Childhood

definition

Disorder occurring most frequently in young children during late spring and summer. It is characterized by extremely pruritic urticarial papules that may be surmounted by a tiny vesicle. Bullous lesions may also develop. The lesions tend to be grouped in clusters and develop in crops at irregular intervals. This disorder is generally considered a sensitivity reaction to insect bites and stings, fleas, mosquitoes and bedbugs being most commonly responsible for it. Some authors consider the uncontrolled intake of chocolates, unripe fruit and jam to be causative for this disorder, though.
