Macular atrophy of the skin resulting in circumscribed areas of slack skin associated with a loss of dermal substance on palpation and a loss of elastic tissue on histological examination. The lesions are preceded by small erythematous macules. There is no associated underlying disease. Middle-aged women are affected most commonly, but the disorder can occur in childhood.
